Self-Centering Spring

All Freedom Concepts bikes come with a self-centering spring. This integrated spring mechanism naturally returns the front wheel to center and provides gentle, consistent steering assistance without restricting movement. Maintains the straight direction of the device without operating the handlebars.

• Assists users with limited upper-extremity coordination or delayed motor planning by helping them maintain a forward, stable steering position
• Reduces unintentional veering caused by spasticity, tremors, or fatigue
• Improves overall safety by preventing sudden handlebar drift or over-steering, and promotes steadier riding trajectories

Locked/Unlocked Steering Adjustment

All pedal bikes (non-handcycles) at Freedom Concepts come standard with the ability to switch between locked and unlocked steering modes. This offers flexibility for users whose abilities change over time or for programs that support multiple users with varying needs. In locked position, the user’s handlebars disengage from the front fork and steering column, meaning the bike is fully controlled from the Rear Steer. In the unlocked position, the user has engaged handlebars and allows for the user to practice steering independence.

Locked Mode (Caregiver-Controlled)

• Keeps the front handlebars fixed when the user lacks the motor control, strength, or safety awareness
• Ensures directional stability during therapeutic sessions, transfers, or early skill development
• Reduces the risk of sudden or unsafe steering inputs, as well as eliminates the opportunity for the user to steer against the caregiver and fight for directional control

Unlocked Mode (User-Controlled)

• Allows users with adequate motor ability to practice steering independence, bilateral arm coordination, and spatial awareness
• Supports therapeutic goals involving visual-motor integration and upper body engagement
